The fifth season of The Nekci Menij Show premiered on February 17th, 2017 with the episode 'Nekci With The Good Hair'.
It is the first season of the show to be released in over two years, after the show went on hiatus following the aborted series of 'Nekci's Advent Calendar' bonus videos.
A new remix of the show's theme music, 'Stursheps', is introduced in this season, marking the second time the theme music has been changed.

In August 2013, The Nekci Menij Show was seemingly cancelled. Creator David Alexander announced it would be replaced with a "brand new" spin-off series, Nekci & Friends: All-Star Studio, on the myISH YouTube channel. Six episodes of All-Star Studio premiered between September and November 2014.
However, in February 2014, The Nekci Menij Show was revived on its official YouTube channel, GingerTheHorse. Four brand new episodes (continuing from where All-Star Studio left off) and a bonus special were released sporadically throughout the year. The last of these, 'The Single Life', premiered on September 1st, 2014.
In December 2014, a series of Christmas specials entitled 'Nekci's Advent Calendar' were released. As the title suggests, a new special was supposed to be uploaded every day until Christmas Day.
However, after the fifth special was posted on December 5th, 2014, the series came to an abrupt halt, and The Nekci Menij Show and all its official spin-offs went on hiatus. This effectively made 'The Single Life' the fourth season finale.
As of February 2017, there had been no new updates to any of the Nekci Menij series in well over two years. During this time, the official @NEKCIMENIJ Twitter account sporadically teased a comeback and thanked fans for being patient.
On February 5th, 2017, exactly two years and five months after 'The Single Life' premiered, it was finally confirmed that the fifth season of The Nekci Menij Show would begin later that month. An eight-second teaser video was posted on the @NEKCIMENIJ Twitter account featuring some of the main characters, ending with the message: "The Nekci Menij Show season five, coming February 2017".
The premiere episode, 'Nekci With The Good Hair', was released on February 17th, 2017. Its follow-up, 'A Year In The Life Of Brinty Spreas', was not released until over a year later.
